Information for Professionals
Connexions Personal Advisors
The role of Connexions is to support 13-19 year olds in their transitions to adulthood. Because the Connexions service is working with many young people through such a dramatic transition period in their lives then Personal Advisors must be aware of issues of around sexuality and how to challenge young peoples prejudices.
The Connexions service has a target to reduce the proportion of young people who are not in education, employment or training. Many lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) young people find themselves in this position often because they do not have the right support behind them and because of their past experiences of heterosexism and homophobia.
The Connexions service has produced a guidance document called ‘Information and Guidance on Engaging Young Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual People’ this is available from the DfES website or from the Education for Diversity office.
We also provide training specifically for PA’s who are working with young people in one-to-one or group situations. You can book on this training through the Connexions training team based at Eagle Point or through you manager. Training for 2005 / 2006 is:
- Tuesday 28th June – Colden Common
- Tuesday 7th February – Colden Common
