Information for Professionals
School Nurses
The school nurse team has a fantastic opportunity to work with young people around sexuality as part of their work. Because many school nurses are involved in the delivery of SRE (sex and relationships education) in secondary schools they have a great opportunity to start the discussions about emerging sexuality and diversity in sexuality in these sessions.
Education for Diversity has provided training and support to school nurses and has provided training sessions on working with young people about sexuality, challenging and dealing with homophobia, supporting young people and dealing with queries.
School nurses have a vital role in supporting young people individually in schools and is a great link person to other support structures and professionals that work with young people.
As well as providing training for school nurses we can provide support and resources to the school nurse teams in the area. These include activities for working with young people, leaflets and posters.
If you want more information about what we can do for your school nurse team or would like to order resources then please call the office.
