Youth Workers
Supporting gay, lesbian and bisexual young people can be a challenging yet rewarding experience requiring a whole range of skills, awareness and sensitivity that we know from our work with the youth service that many youth workers have already. However too often sexuality is not discussed in youth projects, or only tackled re-actively.
Hampshire has got several youth projects for young people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or exploring their sexuality and these are listed on the links page. These projects support young people through a range of one-to-one and group support and usually have a regular youth club night. If you want any more information about your local project the look on the links page and give them a call.
Education for Diversity has developed a range of training materials designed to help youth workers expand their skills and confidence both in responding to young people who may be questioning their sexuality, but also thorough working with groups of young people on dealing with attitudes towards sexuality, and dealing with diversity. If you, or your colleagues feel that they might benefit from this training, please contact us in the office.
As well as providing training to your project we can also provide resources such as leaflets and posters which explore some of the issues that young people exploring their sexuality may come across including coming out and homophobia. For more information about the resources we can offer please contact us at the office.
